Compounding Pharmacies Offer Alternative ADHD Treatments

Child with ADHDWhen adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) try to describe their experience they say it feels like their brain never turns off or that every day is a struggle. Imagine the confusion and anxiety children must feel when they can’t pay attention, sit still or control their actions like all the other kids.

Standard prescription medications do not always provide adequate relief for many patients, especially those experiencing such complex conditions as ADHD. Compounding pharmacies, which mix personalized medications “from scratch” for patients, offer an advantage in that they can customize medications and offer alternative treatments. According to Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, ADHD may be linked to exposure to mercury and other pollutants and environmental toxins. When glutathione topical cream from a compounding pharmacy is applied to the skin, it assists in the metabolism of toxins and carcinogens, while supporting immune system function. Using this topical dosage form is effective because glutathione cannot be absorbed orally.

Another compound that is beneficial for children with ADHD is co-enzyme q10 (co-q10) in lozenge form, which is easily administered to children by placing a lozenge on the tongue to dissolve. Co-q10 is a vitamin that helps with membrane stabilization and the facilitation of metabolic pathways.  The lozenges are palatable to children and provide a dosage that is instantly absorbed into the bloodstream.

Other dietary supplements that are believed to help patients with ADHD include probiotics and fish oils, because some patients with ADHD have lower serum levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Administration of fish oils will help to increase these levels and allow for greater concentration. Probiotics, which contain “good bacteria” that are naturally found in the lining of the gut, can enhance the function of the immune system and support neurotransmitter levels in the brain. Probiotics are crucial for patients with ADHD, who often present an overgrowth of bad bacteria and insufficient quantities of good bacteria.

In addition to compounded medications, there are several alternative remedies that can help to improve the symptoms of ADHD in children. One of the most widely used approaches is a food-sensitivity panel that examines reactions to 110 of the most common food allergens. Results, which are obtained through a send-away blood test, can then be used to structure a specific diet around the patient’s allergens.

Adult Stem Cell Nutrition Benefits

StemCellIntraOralSprayStem Cell Worx Intraoral Spray is the world’s only natural stem cell supplement in an intramural spray, and it’s available at The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills today. It is designed specifically to activate your own adult stem cells naturally and provides robust immunity. With 50 to 70 trillion cells in your body, cellular health is crucial to your overall well-being and good health. Adult stem cells working at optimal levels provide the platform for many cumulative health benefits.

Benefits include:

  • Supports the natural increase of your own adult stem cells, providing the platform for many cumulative health benefits
  • Increases energy and endurance
  • Super charges your immune system
  • Improves alertness and mental clarity
  • Recover faster after your exercise regime
  • Provides repair and recovery after surgery, injury or illness
  • Reduces inflammation and bloating, and relieves constipation
  • The most powerful source of natural growth and immune factors
  • Helps build muscle, burn fat and maintain natural weight loss in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise regime

As we age, our own adult stem cells decline rapidly, our immune system weakens and our ability to absorb nutrients through our gastrointestinal tract reduces. The Stem Cell Worx Intraoral Spray supplement is designed specifically to combat these challenges.

Important Facts:

  • Stem Cell Worx Intraoral Spray provides an absorption rate of up to 95% of its nutrients compared to just 10% to 20% absorption that pills and capsules provide.
  • More than 100 million Americans suffer from digestive issues. Effective absorption via the intestinal tract becomes easily compromised due to a variety of factors, including age, the environment, and illness. Therefore the way in which you take your health supplements is crucial.
  • More than 70 million Americans every year are turning to natural health remedies rather than prescription drugs.
  • In order for adult stem cells to be stimulated into the bloodstream, with the blood being the principal carrier of nutrients and oxygen to cells, three key factors are required. These are growth and immune factors, along with cytokines. Stem Cell Worx Intraoral Spray has all three factors in abundance.
  • Time takes its toll on your own adult stem cells. At 65 years of age, the release rate of adult stem cells entering the bloodstream drops by 80%. It is important you keep them activated. The good news is it is now possible to reverse this statistic. Adult stem cells are the master cells of your body that have the ability to maintain, self-renew and repair cells, tissue and muscle throughout your entire life time. These cells are often referred to as autologous, haematopoietic (blood), mesenchymal or stromal stem cells.

  • Stem Cell Worx contains the greatest number of natural growth and immune factors compared to any other health supplement on the market. This enables natural stem cell activation to be as much as 80% per 36mg of formulation (being half the daily dose).

WHY YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON VITAL NUTRIENTS

It is scientifically proven the most effective way to take your nutrients, to ensure you get maximum absorption, is by intraoral application (spray under the tongue, hold then swallow). The absorption rate of nutrients from an intraoral spray is up to 95% compared to only a 10% – 20% absorption rate that pills and capsules provide. Intraoral delivery ensures your body retains almost all of the nutrients that get to work straight away, providing rapid benefit and effectiveness. This is because the sub-mucosal membrane (that sits under the tongue) transports nutrients directly into the bloodstream. It is also very cost effective, as a lower dosage of nutrients is needed due to the very concentrated source of delivery intraoral provides.

Scientific research shows stem cell release rates from the bone marrow drop at an astonishing rate as we age. By the age of 65 years old, the release rate drops by more than 80% leaving only 20% of active stem cells circulating in the bloodstream and this is when we need them the most to help fight aging and disease. The good news is it is never too late to start reversing these statistics. It is now possible to activate our own adult stem cells with a very natural, powerful stem cell supplement. Stem Cell Worx Intraoral Spray is a unique formulation that is at the forefront of nutritional supplementation.

ADULT STEM CELLS – YOUR BODY’S OWN REPAIR AND RENEWAL KIT

Your own adult stem cells, that are with you from the day you were born, have the ability to replenish and regenerate cells throughout your entire body. These cells are your body’s very own matrix. They are responsible for repairing cells, muscle, tissue and tendons, and they also strengthen your immune system.

Adult stem cells, once in the bloodstream have the ability to migrate to areas where they are most needed. This vital, life-sustaining process helps improve, maintain and preserve your health and well-being throughout your entire life time. Stem Cell Worx Intraoral Spray is a leading dietary supplement, designed specially by a team of Bio-Chemists, Scientists and health experts to provide advanced immune response, cellular repair and renewal. Compounding For Fertility

cpbh

Fertility compounding can be used to create a wide range of different customized treatments to assist with fertility. In the U.S. alone over 6 million men and women have fertility issues, or one in ten couples, and fertility treatments are highly specialized and must often be customized for each individual. Pharmaceutical compounding has made several major areas of progress for fertility treatments. Women and men who are infertile may have difficulties with conceiving but modern fertility medicine is so far advanced that there are many treatments to try. Fertility medications created at The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills can treat a wide range of different fertility problems based on the cause. Fertility medications can prove to be successful in treating fertility issues.

The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills can create customized fertility medicines based on the individual needs of the patient and directions of fertility physicians. There can be several causes of fertility problems for women such as hormonal imbalances, ovulation problems, or issues with the reproductive system. Men may have issues with creating healthy sperm, emotional stress, malnutrition and other problems that can cause infertility. Infertility can be caused by certain illnesses, the use of medications, diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, and some genetic disorders. There are many factors that affect fertility even for healthy people. A fertility physician can find the specific causes of the fertility issue and create a customized treatment for each individual, and with the wide range of different factors that can affect fertility, compounding pharmacies can be quite helpful in creating customized treatments.

Factors that affect fertility

There are dozens of factors that can affect fertility in both men and women, and below are some of the more common factors, some of which cannot be controlled:

  • Age – age is the strongest predictor of fertility. Fertility for men starts to decline at age 35, and it starts to decline for women after age 32, although there are many cases of women having children even after the age of 50. There is a higher chance of miscarriage and birth abnormalities for women after the age of 40.
  • STDs – sexually transmitted diseases can affect fertility for both men and women. Diseases such as syphilis, HPV, gonorrhea and others can cause fertility problems and by affecting the reproductive organs. Early and effective treatment of STDs can prevent fertility problems from arising.
  • Weight – weight has a significant influence on fertility, however weight problems can be treated with the proper diet along with certain compounded medications. For both men and women, body fat levels can affect fertility. Excess body fat in both men and women can cause hormone production abnormalities. Body fat levels that are too low can shut down the reproductive system entirely.
  • Hormone imbalances – hormonal imbalances can result from many different causes, for women they can affect the ovulation cycle, making them too long or too short, or stopping them altogether. Hormone imbalances are regularly treated at compounding pharmacies with customized treatments based on each individual’s hormone levels.
  • Medications – many medications can have fertility side effects that result in low libido or other fertility problems. Many of fertility side effects are temporary, and some of the medications that can affect fertility include antibiotics, anti-depressants, and painkillers. Compounded medications can also be created to reverse fertility problems caused by medications.
  • Environmental hazard exposure – there are several different types of environmental hazards that can lead to fertility issues such as radiation, microwave emissions, high temperatures, chemicals, prolonged exposure to stress, and several other factors can cause fertility problems.
  • Using drugs and alcohol – several types of drugs, tobacco and alcohol can cause a wide range of different fertility problems. Smoking can cause fertility problems for women, and even moderate alcohol consumption can cause fertility problems. Addictions to drugs and alcohol can be treated with compounded medications.

Fertility medications that cannot be found commercially can be created to treat these fertility issues and other fertility issues. Hormone replacement therapies can treat fertility problems related to low hormone production, and natural hormones are often used in compounding treatments. We also offer the benefit of being able to create a wide range of different routes of administration for fertility treatments such as oral capsules, topical gels, suppositories, injections, oral suspension, and other treatments as needed.

Multiple fertility treatments can be combined into one if necessary, and compounding pharmacies can create customized fertility dosages and unique methods of administration not available commercially. Drug compounding gives fertility doctors the versatility in treatment options to be able to pick the proper treatment for their patients.

5 Benefits of Pharmacy Compounding

Compounding_Benefits

When a patient is unable to take the commercially available drug or she requires a medication that has been discontinued, our licensed pharmacists can recreate that medication via compounding. Sometimes patients don’t respond to the traditional forms of treatment, or they simply need their medication in a different form. Compounding meets these needs by providing customized solutions for each patient’s needs, making it beneficial not only for our customers, but also for medical providers and physicians.

At one time, all medications were compounded. However, with the advent of mass drug manufacturing, the role of compounding declined and pharmacists were seen more as cookie-cutter drug dispensers. Over the recent decades though, technology advancements and the rise of innovative techniques have allowed pharmacists to customize medications, which makes exploring the benefits of compounding as a differentiator even more important.

If you are still undetermined about introducing compounding to your regiment, we’ve hand-selected these 5 benefits of pharmacy compounding that show how it can help patients live a healthier and happier life.

1. Allowing Access to Discontinued Medications

When large manufacturers discontinue production of certain drugs, they make it hard for the patients who still need these medications to fill their prescriptions. Compounding pharmacists play an important role in providing access to discontinued medications by recreating pharmaceutical-based ingredients in order to ensure that patients get the critical care they require. Today, compounding pharmacies have access to the highest quality pharmaceutical ingredients and can fill the prescription using the latest research, quality control process and techniques that help meet the individual patient needs. The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills can help customers get the complete range of medications they require.

2. Making Medication Easier to Use

Some medications have a very unpleasant flavor, making it hard for the patients to take them as directed. A compounding pharmacist can custom make the prescription from scratch with the patient’s flavor of choice. This is especially handy when dealing with patients who may refuse medication, like young children, elderly patients, or even pets! Patients are thankful once their medications, produced in the form that is convenient and easy to use, is made available at the pharmacy.

3. Allowing Alternative Dosage Forms

From time to time, patients may need their medication in a different dosage form. For instance, patients who have difficulty swallowing a pill may find it easier to take their medication in a pleasantly flavored liquid form. Some medications can be also compounded in a topical form — cream or a gel that allows the medicine to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin. As a compounding pharmacy, we can offer these products in various dosage forms depending on the best method of compliance for the patient!

4. Making Medication Allergy-Friendly

Allergy, sensitivity, as well as a patient’s intolerance of dyes, lactose, gluten or alcohol can cause the unwanted reactions when taking a certain medication. In other cases, commercially available medications may contain excipients such as fillers and preservatives that cannot be tolerated by the patient because of sensitivities or allergies to these substances. Our compounding pharmacists can make a formula without the offensive ingredients, so a patient can still get the right treatment.

5. Offering Unique Services that Pharmacy Chains Don’t

When it comes to compounding, identifying patients’ needs is our top priority.  What side effects are patients dealing with? What questions might they have when they take their medicine? A compounding niche offers patients a service they can’t receive at most other pharmacies. It allows the pharmacist to use their extensive drug knowledge to help the patient and prescriber create a truly unique treatment plan. Compounding pharmacists are often able to offer treatments for unusual or resistant maladies that traditional allopathic medicine can’t help with or has failed. Contact us today to discuss your compounding options!

Compounding for Sports Medicine

sports-medicine-downtown-toronto-iconSports medicine has proven to be another area where pharmacy compounding has shown to be very useful and in high demand. Sports trainers and physicians have found that compounded medications are far superior to commercial medications, as they can be customized based on their dosage, method of administration, the number of active ingredients, absorption, and more.

Modern drug delivery methods such as iontophoresis can be used with compounded medications, and commercial versions simply are not as effective. Athletes require the best when it comes to medications and treatments for their injuries, and sports medicine is one area where new treatments are regularly found, as physicians tend to experiment safely with new potential treatments that may offer faster healing times.

Sports medicine is one field that is constantly testing the effectiveness of different sports medicine treatments to reduce downtime as much as possible. Athletes benefit from a reduced downtime, as they need to get back on the playing field as quickly as possible. New treatments based on research can be safely tested by sports medicine physicians with the help of compounding pharmacies.

For instance, several new topical medications have been developed for sports medicine, such as compounds with ketoprofen. These compounds have shown to be much more effective than compounds or commercial medications that use oral ketoprofen. Topical ketoprofen applies a high concentration of the drug directly to the site of inflammation or injury, and it causes symptom relief quickly, while oral ketoprofen is not targeted and can have symptoms such as gastrointestinal upset.

Compounded medications allow for customized and unique treatments

The challenge for treating athletes is that every athlete is unique and has their own requirements to take into account such as allergies, tolerance for different medications, preferred methods of administration, age, weight, injury level, and many other factors that must be taken into account with every treatment.

There are few commercial sports medicine treatments that can be effective for every athlete. This is even more important on the professional level, where athletes require a minimal downtime and the fastest and most effective treatments available. Also, healing rates and inflammation levels vary from one person to another.

A knee injury for one athlete may be much more devastating for another athlete, and different recovery methods must be used for each type of athlete. Compounding pharmacies allow sports medicine physician and trainers to develop customized treatments for their athletes, based on their unique needs. Athletes at every level can benefit from compounded treatments because they are customized for them.

The athlete’s physician will know which treatments are the most effective based on the athlete’s treatment history. Also, customized dosage forms can be tested on the athlete, and there may be a particular type of compound with a unique combination of active ingredients that ends up being more effective for that particular individual. Compounding pharmacies allow physicians to create compounds that may be much more effective than commercial treatments, and take into account each athlete’s requirements.

Several different ailments can be treated at compounding pharmacies

Compounded medications have proven to be highly effective at treating a full range of sports related injuries and illnesses, and they have started to become a primary source of medication for sports medicine physicians. Athletes regularly experience a wide range of different ailments and injuries that can successfully be treated at compounding pharmacies including the following:

▪ Dehydration – treated with customized electrolyte formulas

▪ Calluses – treated with compounded lotions.

▪ Cramps – topical gels and other topical or oral treatments can be used to reduce the chance of cramps or to treat cramps in-game. Athletes who are prone to cramps can also have customized electrolyte formulas created for them based on their unique electrolyte imbalances.

▪ Nutritional Needs – nutrition is one of the most significant areas that compounded treatments can help with. Customized protein formulas, or vitamin and mineral supplements can be created at compounding pharmacies as nutritional supplements, and these can be vital to an athlete’s performance and healing.

▪ Wounds – the healing time for wounds can be sped up dramatically with compounded medications, and treatments such as tissue healing gels and compounded ointments can be used to improve wound healing.

▪ Carpal tunnel – transdermal gels are effective at treating carpal tunnel syndrome.

▪ Dry skin – customized moisturizing creams can be created at compounding pharmacies.

▪ Hemorrhoids – can be treated with customized suppositories or other treatments to reduce symptoms.

▪ Athlete’s foot – topical antifungal gels can be created to treat athlete’s foot more effectively than commercial medication.

Overall, pharmacy compounding offers athletes convenient and effective treatment options. Our licensed pharmacists can work with sports medicine physicians to create customized and safe compounds which can be used to treat sports injuries and for other sports medicine applications. Compounding for GERD and Stomach Ulcers

gerdBoth gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and stomach ulcers are painful and eventually dangerous, yet few of us pay much attention to these kinds of health problems. Specialty compounding for GERD and stomach ulcers is an important area for compounding pharmacies, and a great way to meet the needs of a large group of patients.

Reflux and GERD

What we commonly call heartburn or acid reflux is one of the most common digestive troubles. One Swedish study found that 6 percent of people experience symptoms of reflux every day, and 14 percent every week. Typically, having reflux often signals GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. GERD happens when acid or, sometimes, even stomach contents, come back up into the esophagus or food pipe. This reflux which contains very corrosive stomach acid irritates the lining of the esophagus, causing the disease.

When these signs and symptoms occur at least twice each week or interfere with your daily life, or when your doctor can see damage to your esophagus, you may be diagnosed with GERD. Aside from being painful, GERD can harm the esophagus over time or even lead to esophageal cancer.

The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills can help people with GERD using compounded treatments that include acid-reducing drugs, such as the proton pump inhibitors rabeprazole sodium (found in Aciphex), omeprazole (found in Nexium and Prilosec), lansoprazole (found in Prevacid), and pantoprazole sodium (found in Protonix), which are good options for many and can be compounded. The H2 blockers nizatidine (found in Axid), famotidine (found in Pepcid), cimetidine (found in Tagamet), and ranitidine (found in Zantac) can also be compounded.

Another way that custom compounding helps patients with GERD is by allowing them to bypass their gastric system altogether as they medicate their illness. The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills has long created custom topical compounds for GERD patients; this is because these patients have long-term medication requirements that can eventually cause stomach ulcers when taken through the digestive system. For those with gastric difficulties, bypassing the GI tract altogether is a major benefit.

Peptic Ulcers

Feeling pain in the belly, many Americans reach for over-the-counter pain remedies like aspirin or ibuprofen. Unfortunately, this often makes the problem worse if ulcers are the cause of the pain. On the numbers, ulcers may well be the source: more than 25 million Americans will cope with stomach ulcers at some point in their life.

Ulcers in the stomach are often caused by Helicobacter pylori, bacteria that disrupt the protective layer of mucus that protects the stomach from its own acids. Without that mucus, sores in the stomach’s lining and sometimes the upper area of the small intestine can form. Excessive use of NSAIDs like ibuprofen and smoking also elevate stomach acidity, leading to ulcers. Experts say that alcohol use and stress can aggravate symptoms, but they are not known to cause ulcers on their own.

Specialty compounding is helpful to patients with stomach ulcers. First, like those with GERD they often need to reduce the amount of acid in their stomachs, and some require prescriptions to do so. Ulcer patients also often need antibiotics, because at least 80 percent of ulcers in the stomach are caused by Helicobacter pylori bacteria. Ulcer patients can receive a customized prescription for their ulcers and bypass their GI system to take it, further reducing the stress on their already overburdened GI tract.

Compounding for GERD and stomach ulcers is the ideal way to give painful bellies a break while administering the right medications safely. More and more health care providers are turning to the services of compounding pharmaceutical professionals to meet these kinds of specialty needs, and patients are demanding that they do.

Fortunately, you have the ability to purchase your products and receive information from a reliable source. For more about pharmaceutical compounding for GERD and ulcers, please contact The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills, your trusted compounding resource.

Compounding Provides Gluten / Allergen Free Prescriptions

Screen Shot 2016-05-05 at 12.16.28 PM

Are you ill? Do you need a prescription? What if the medicine prescribed is going to make you more sick?

Yes, this can happen if you are gluten-free or allergen-free and are taking medicine that has hidden “inactive” ingredients containing one or more allergens. Getting your pharmacist to understand your needs, take the time to research the ingredients’ data, and actually pass this information along to you seems to be a bit much to expect.  Then, if it is discovered that your prescription contains unsafe elements, how long will it take to get a new “safe” medicine prescribed by your physician? This can be frustrating under normal conditions, but when you or your loved one is not well, you don’t really have the time or energy to struggle through all of this detective work.  You need health and healing now.

Not many people realize that the very medicine that their physician is prescribing might be a problem. Nor did the physician.  This is often the case because MDs are generally not equipped with much nutrition or holistic training in medical school. These are practices that require further specialization. So what can be done? Well, minus requiring an additional training program of your upcoming MDs, there is a better, and more immediate, solution.

The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills.

Our compounding pharmacists have the education, experience, and resources to create medication “compounds” according to your physician’s prescription, using only the “active” ingredients that are required to address the illness, and leaving out the “inactive” ingredients used for binding the substances into a pill form. Generally, this is done by taking the necessary ingredients and putting them in a capsule form to be swallowed, or adding the active ingredients to a liquid substance to be taken by spoon or in a drink. Get in touch with The Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills today to find out how we can make your medications gluten and allergen free.

Why Pharmacy Compounding Is Making a Comeback

Compouding-Lab

Pharmacy compounding has started to make a comeback as it has become more popular and an effective way to produce medications that are customized for each patient. Personalized medicine that is based on each patient’s individual needs, genetics, health condition, medication tolerance, and other factors is increasing in popularity, and pharmacy compounding is an effective way for patients to obtain customized medications that meet their unique needs.

At compounding pharmacies, pharmacists can create medications from scratch using sterile production methods and raw materials. Modern compounding pharmacies have the proper safety and sterile equipment to safely produce compounded medications, so quality and purity is not a concern as long as the facility is modern, licensed to produce medications in its state, and staffed by pharmacists.

Before modern commercial medications, compounded medications were the major method of medication production. Pharmaceutical companies use mass drug production methods to create large shipments of branded drugs throughout the country, however each shipment of medication has very specific ingredients that cannot normally be adjusted, and they are designed to meet the needs of as many different people as possible.

In many cases commercialized medications are effective, but it falls short in several different circumstances as well. Physicians and medical professionals in many different fields of medicine are finding that compounded medications are just as effective or more effective than commercial medications, and as a result there has been an increased usage of compounding pharmacies.

Compounded medications are more versatile than commercial medications

Although a pharmaceutical company can create a huge quantity of one particular medication, there may be a large number of patients who are unable to use that particular medication for several reasons including: allergies to a particular ingredient, difficulties taking the medication in its form, too high of a dosage, or other issues.

At a compounding pharmacy the active ingredient can be added into a different format such as a lozenge, cream, gel, or drops. Allergies can be avoided by creating customized forms that are free of dyes, preservatives or other chemicals that may trigger allergies. The dosage can also be carefully controlled at a compounding pharmacy for patients that need lower doses or customized doses.

The applications for pharmaceutical compounding are almost endless, and many patients have experienced the benefits of personalized medicine, making it much more popular and increasingly requested by patients in fields like dermatology, sports medicine, geriatrics, endocrinology, and several others.

Compounded medications are usually covered by insurance, and if they are not covered by insurance they are usually affordable, costing almost the same or less as commercial medications. They can be produced with a relatively low cost as the raw ingredients used to make compounded medications can be purchased in bulk. Also, multiple active ingredients can be combined if necessary, reducing the total number of medications needed by a patient and possibly reducing their cost as well.

Medicine forms can be customized to be more effective

One area where compounding pharmacies have had a higher demand is for the creation of customized medicine forms. Medication forms are a major consideration because some forms can be much more effective than others. For instance, pain medications are often prescribed as oral medications, and they make take two hours or more to go into effect.

However, at compounding pharmacies topical medications can be created that are effective immediately and offer faster relief. This is of particular importance in fields like sports medicine where the speed of delivery of the medication is a major consideration. In other fields like veterinary medicine or pediatric medicine compounding pharmacies play a major role in creating medications that are tolerable for the patient in a form that is easy for them to take.

This increased usage of compounding medications has resulted in a larger percentage of the annual prescriptions in the United States being created at compounding pharmacies, and that percentage continues to grow as patients have shown to benefit from customized medicine.

Compounding pharmacies are also a relatively unknown option for both patients and medical practitioners in spite of their long history and popularity prior to commercial pharmacies, and as more patients become aware of their benefits, the use of compounding pharmacies will likely continue to increase. Many compounding pharmacies work individually with each patient or medical provider to find out their specific needs and offer suggestions as to which types of compounding medications may work the best for their unique situation.

Compounding pharmacies are safe as long as they are regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy

The FDA does not directly oversee compounding pharmacies because there are so many of them and because each pharmacy serves a wide range of different purposes, and the FDA leaves compounding pharmacy regulation to each state’s Board of Pharmacy. The Board of Pharmacy for each state has their own regulations and requirements for compounding pharmacies.

Also, compounding pharmacies are often required to carry the proper equipment to produce sterile medications, and they are required to produce medications in a cleanroom. Some medications that may be more susceptible to contamination must be produced with a stricter protocol. Contamination of medications at compounding pharmacies is rare and the vast majority of contamination has occurred at pharmacies that were not licensed or regulated by state boards.

Compounded medications have a wide range of clinical applications

With the several different clinical applications that compounded medications have in dozens of medical fields, they have become an increasingly popular alternative to commercial medications. Commercial medications simply cannot offer the same level of customization and versatility that compounded medications can offer, and although they may work for many people, there are always some patient that need more individualized medication formats for their unique needs.

Compounding pharmacies can safely produce medications that make the lives of their patients much easier, and medical providers all over the United States have started to use them much more often in their practice.
